ICE Hockey League – Red Bull Salzburg wins hit at KAC

Ice hockey champions Salzburg have made amends for the 8-1 defeat at the KAC a month ago. The Bulls defeated the record champions on Wednesday in the 30th ICE round away 2-1 after extra time. Innsbruck took three points from the Puster Valley with a 6:4 win in Bruneck. The Vienna Capitals lost 2:4 at home to Bozen after a 2:1 lead and are now only two points ahead of bottom team Graz. The Styrians won 4-0 in Asiago.

Before the top game in Klagenfurt, club legend Thomas Koch was honored. The 40-year-old striker ended his successful career in the spring. Koch won nine championship titles with the KAC and Salzburg; with 1,043 points in 1,163 games, he is the best scorer in recent league history. His successors were stingy with goals in front of 4,300 fans. Manuel Ganahl only gave the KAC the lead in the 39th minute, Adam Payerl (47th) equalized. The score went into extra time at 1-1, in which Ryan Murphy scored the decisive goal. This ended Klagenfurt’s successful run of four wins in a row. After two defeats, Salzburg regained success and moved within four points of league leaders Fehervar. The Hungarians will only play in Feldkirch on Thursday.
