Travel cheaply over Pentecost: Family excursions in the ICE for just €14.30 per person – children free
Deutsche Bahn is currently offering a cheap option for a family outing: if you book a ticket for three to five people, there is a 20 percent “Friends discount” on national long-distance train journeys. You can travel across Germany with the ICE, IC or EC from EUR 14.30. Children up to the age of 14 travel for free.

Cheaper than the Germany ticket
Normally, Deutsche Bahn only has one for at least six people
group discount. However, with the
Sparpreis and
Super saver offer often even better prices possible: Here you can travel through Germany from 17.90 euros.
As part of a current campaign groups from three to five people until June 10, 2023 once again 20 percent save. This means that the price for a ticket on national long-distance Deutsche Bahn trains (ICE, IC and EC trains) can be calculated 14.30 euros press.
The so-called
Friends discount only applies to group bookings and is dependent on utilization, so only applies for selected connections. It cannot be combined with the discounted target group tickets “(Super) Sparpreis Young” or “(Super) Sparpreis Senior”. Also note that only full-paying guests are included in the group size – that is, people from 15 years. Children up to 14 years travel in general for free with (maximum four children per ticket).
In the promotional period For example, a single journey costs from Munich to Berlin for one family of five Ideally, two adults, one young person aged 15 and over and two younger children a total of only 42.90 euros – or 85.80 euros including the return journey. The “Friends discount” of 20 percent will be automatically deducted from the price. However, a cancellation is not possible with the “Super Sparpreis” (in contrast to the normal “Sparpreis”). There is also a train connection.

The “super saver price” is available up to 180 days before the start of the journey, while normal “saver price tickets” can be booked six months in advance (from the timetable change in June and December). Get a BahnCard 25 or BahnCard 50 additional 25 percent discount on the unit price. As a result, a ticket would only cost 10.70 euros.
Of course, a portion of luck is still part of it. As already mentioned, the ”
Friends discount” depending on the workload. On popular routes, it is unlikely that you will be able to get such a cheap ticket at peak times. However, it is worth choosing a rather unusual departure or arrival time (e.g. early in the morning or in the middle of the night) as well as connections with changes. These trains usually have a significantly lower capacity utilization.
You should take this into account when taking action
The ” Friends discount “ is only available online at the
Deutsche Bahn website or in the app DB Navigator – The discounted tickets are not available from machines or in the travel center. This only applies to national long-distance transport (within Germany). As already mentioned, the “Super Sparpreis” no cancellation possible – unless you change your mind within twelve hours (720 minutes). In that case you will get the full amount back. Saver fare tickets, on the other hand, are can be canceled before the first day of validity , with the railway retaining a processing fee of ten euros. Payment is made in the form of a voucher that is valid for three years.
Due to the limited availability, you should not hesitate too long. The promotion itself runs up to and including Tuesday 10 June 2023. Occasionally, Deutsche Bahn increases the contingent Super saver tickets and offers them from 12.90 euros – last in February (we reported). Here you can save a little more money compared to the “Friends discount”.
No matter where ticket is valid until the end of the year
If there is no “(super) saver fare” available for the desired connection, we recommend that you take a look at the “no matter where” ticket from the German train and Edeka. This costs 39.90 euros and applies both in the trains of long-distance (ICE, IC/EC) as well as in local transport (IRE, RE, RB, S-Bahn).
