“Icon”, “symbol”, “star”: many tributes after the death of Tina Turner


The American singer died on Wednesday May 24 at the age of 83. The White House and many American artists have paid tribute to him.

Pith her voice, her groove and her unique style, Tina Turner was an iconoclastic artist and above all an inspiration for many American artists. Tributes multiplied this Wednesday, May 24, after the announcement of the death of the one who was described as queen of rock’n’roll.

Bryan Adams, who shared the stage with Turner, split a long and touching message on his Twitter account: “The world has just lost one of the greatest artists of all time. I will be forever grateful for the time we spent together on tour, in the studio and as friends. Thank you for being an inspiration to millions around the world for speaking your truth and giving us your amazing voice. My condolences to her husband Erwin and Tina’s family. It’s just love… and that’s it”

Mick Jagger, lead singer of the Rolling Stones, has shared his sadness over the passing of his “wonderful friend”. An artist “so talented”, but also “warm, funny and generous”, he declared. Magic Johnson, one of the best basketball players in history, was moved by the loss of this “legendary queen of rock”. “I saw her many times (in concert) and she performed, by far, some of the best shows I have ever seen” can we read on her Twitter account.

Finally, Tina Turner’s daughter-in-law, Afida, paid tribute to her via Instagram: “I was just talking about you five minutes before landing in Nice. How much you loved the south of France. Rest in peace beautiful mum with Ronnie and Craig”

Tina Turner knew how to reach a large audience even in the highest spheres, as evidenced by the tribute from the White House by the voice of her spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre. “Tina Turner was an icon, her passing is a huge loss. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends,” she said before adding that she was “a very big fan” on a personal level.

Even NASA sent a thought to the singer. “Music legend, Tina Turner, shone on stage and in the hearts of millions as the queen of rock ‘n’ roll. His legacy will forever remain among the stars,” the US space agency said.
