The German manufacturer’s future electric sedan appeared to us concealed under 40 coats of paint at the start of the year; here it is finally without its camouflage.

In January, as part of CES 2023, Volkswagen formalized the next model in its ID range: the ID.7, a 100% electric sedan inspired by the ID.AERO concept. Problem, during this presentation, the racing car honored the expression “to be made up like a stolen car”: it was concealed under 40 layers of electroluminescent paint. Last week, a reader of Braunschweiger Zeitung however, had the opportunity to meet the beauty without this overcoat of paint; he hastened to take her picture to share his vision.

More camouflage to better go unnoticed

Let’s start as it should with the usual presentations. The ID.7 is a fully electric sedan that is logically part of the Volkswagen ID range, which already includes the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6 and ID. Buzz EV (note that the brand recently introduced an ID.2all as well as an ID.1). As stated above, the ID.7 will be the global realization of the ID.AERO concept presented in June 2022.

At the beginning of the year, the German manufacturer presented the ID.7 in a special appearance for the show. On the roads, the ID.7 spotted by a reader of the Braunschweiger Zeitung is much less flashy (cover photo). The single shot shows the vehicle simply painted white, in a finish that is certainly much closer to those that will be marketed.

This appearance took place during a test drive in Braunschweig, a city located in the Land of Lower Saxony (in northern Germany).

Launch planned for this fall

The ID.7, which you can think of as an electric Passat, is on the list of ten new electric vehicle models that Volkswagen plans to launch before 2026. Luckily, if you like this sedan, you won’t have to wait too a long time. The launch is indeed planned before the end of the year, during the autumn.

Regarding prices, everything will depend on the finishes, but it would take at least 50,000 euros and up to 70,000 euros. Among the advantages of this vehicle, let us mention in particular an announced autonomy of 700 km and the central screen of 15 inches.
