It’s the key to happiness and the culinary content creator known as Seizemay reveals all the secrets to us in a video recently posted on his TikTok account. Even if it is a slightly improved version, it is still super easy and tasty.

The list of ingredients for 1 person

  • 2 tablespoons of thick crème fraîche
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh goat cheese
  • 1 pinch of thyme
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 2 slices of sandwich bread
  • 2 slices of white ham
  • 1/3 goat cheese log
  • 2 handfuls of grated mozzarella
  • salt and pepper

The steps of the recipe:

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 180°C.
  2. Mix 2 tablespoons of heavy cream with 2 tablespoons of fresh goat cheese. Season with a pinch of thyme, salt and a few turns of pepper. Add a tablespoon of honey and mix until you obtain a homogeneous texture.
  3. Spread your cheese-cream mixture on each slice of bread. Place a first slice of ham on one of the buns. Cut 4 small slices from a goat cheese log and place them in the center of your croque-monsieur. Cover them with a second slice of ham then close with the second bread. Feel free to flatten a little with your hands.
  4. Brush the top of your croque monsieur with a tablespoon of your cream-cheese mixture and sprinkle everything with grated mozzarella. Finish by placing 2 thin slices of goat cheese log.
  5. Bake for 12 minutes at 180°C. Once out of the oven, you can add a little drizzle of honey if you are very greedy.

What is the best cheese for croque monsieur?

There isn’t really a best cheese for croque-monsieur, it mostly depends on individual tastes. If you like gruyere, use some, but if you prefer brie, this will work just as well. On the other hand, we tend to favor cheeses which when cooked become stringy like mozzarella and Emmental. We also prefer cheeses that have a temperature that is not too high so that they are very melty when they come out of the oven.
