Idea of a “bridge lockdown”: Müller lets Laschet down

Idea of a “bridge lockdown”
Müller lets Laschet flash off

NRW Prime Minister Laschet wanted to think about the Corona crisis over the Easter weekend. The result is the “bridge” lockdown. Immediately criticism arises. It comes from the Governing Mayor of Berlin – and that with great clarity.

With his proposal for a “bridge lockdown” in April, CDU boss Laschet met with opposition. Berlin’s governing mayor Michael Müller of the SPD rejected the idea of the NRW head of government and CDU chairman Armin Laschet to discuss a “bridge lockdown” in an early conference of the prime ministers. “I think it is still very much unclear what Mr. Laschet means by this,” said the chairman of the Prime Minister’s Conference to the ARD capital studio.

Laschet’s proposal raises many questions. “A bridge lockdown for a transitional period and then with what measures? And that should apply until many people are vaccinated. What does all this mean?” He thinks that many of Laschet’s considerations are not yet over, said Müller. “And in this respect, I think it makes no sense to meet ahead of schedule for a prime ministerial conference.”

Laschet had previously called for a “bridge lockdown” to bridge the time until many people were vaccinated. The situation requires “that we step up again in many areas,” said the CDU chairman. At the same time, he spoke out in favor of bringing Chancellor Angela Merkel’s round with the country leaders, planned for April 12, forward. More speed and clear decisions are now necessary.

Greens continue to propagate a phased plan

Green parliamentary leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt also called for a tougher approach from the federal government. “We now need a radical breakwater,” she told the “Welt” on Tuesday. Your party supports a “binding, nationwide step-by-step plan, embedded in the Infection Protection Act and approved by the Bundestag”.

Laschet named further contact restrictions and more home offices as specific measures. “We still need fewer private contacts. That can also mean exit restrictions in the evening and at night.” In schools and daycare centers, you have to focus “on what is necessary”. “We have to do more with the home office,” added Laschet. Even with the closure of the gastronomy, it must remain. “And we have to achieve a further reduction in the entire area of leisure activities.”
