Idris Elba has a problem – and has been getting help for a year. In a podcast he announced that he was in therapy.
British actor Idris Elba (51) has sought the help of a therapist. As he revealed in the podcast “Changes with Annie Macmanus,” he wanted to get his “unhealthy habits” under control. According to the Marvel star, these would put a heavy burden on his lifestyle. Elba explained that he decided to take this step almost exactly a year ago.
“It’s a lot,” the 2018 Sexiest Man Alive said, without giving details. But he was still specific: During his therapy he thought a lot about change. “It’s not that I don’t like myself, it’s that I have some unhealthy habits that have really developed,” Elba tries to explain. He works in an industry where he would even be rewarded for such behavior patterns.
Idris Elba describes himself as a “workaholic”
He would describe himself as a “workaholic,” but his penchant for busying himself with lots of projects is now having a real negative impact on his well-being. “Nothing that is too extreme is good, everything needs a balance,” Elba continued. He is currently looking for activities to help him relax. His only problem is that so far only work has been able to relax him, but he wants to be with his family more.
“I could work on a film for ten days in a row, underwater sequences where I hold my breath for six minutes, and then come back and sit in my studio and feel relaxed. More than sitting on the sofa with the family – what “It’s bad, right?” Elba explains his dilemma. The “Luther” actor adds that he can’t just relax at work.
Idris Elba has been married to Canadian model Sabrina Dhowre (34) for the third time since 2019. The two have been a couple since 2017; they met and fell in love on the set of his film “The Mountain Between Us” in Vancouver. Elba brought a son and a daughter from his previous two marriages into his new relationship. According to media reports, Dhowre and Elba live with their two children in New York City.
