To combat abusive telephone canvassing, UFC-Que Choisir has decided to set up a new tool. We’ll explain it to you.
Many French people have to deal with repeated calls every day and at all hours. Incessant telephone canvassing which exceeds 9 out of 10 French people according to data from theUFC-What to choose. To fight against this scourge, the consumer defense association decided to launch, on Tuesday, December 19, a new free tool on its site www.respectemesdatas.fr. In accordance with “General Data Protection Regulation” (GDPR), this functionality allows French people who want to limit these calls to use the applicable regulations regarding the protection of personal data.
This platform offers to generate an automatic letter to your mobile operator in just a few clicks to secure your phone number. THE transfer of your data sent to your operator will then be blocked and your telephone number will therefore no longer be transmitted to universal or public directories, as well as to their partners as part of commercial canvassing.

The association reminds that line holders can request the deletion of their data at any time.so that all the operators who have successively processed and exchanged them among themselves proceed, each at their own level, to erase them.” L’UFC-What to choose invites the French to massively use this tool “to purge commercial prospecting files of their contact detailss” and undertakes to “monitor the proper execution of this initiative.”
The government had already tried to find solutions to combat telephone canvassing. Since March 1, 2022, these calls were only allowed between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., then between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. during the week. Measures still judged insufficient according to a survey carried out by the association last October. In fact, she noted that 72% of French people still received at least one call per week. And for 38%, this canvassing took place every day. We therefore hope that this new tool put in place by theUFC-What to choose could be more effective.
