IFA 2023 – A transparent Oled TV at Thomson

Thomson is taking advantage of IFA 2023 to unveil its first transparent Oled television. This panel manufactured by LG Display is not new, since it regularly appears in living rooms (the most beautiful concept being probably the Panasonic library at IFA 2016). Transparent Oled tiles are also regularly used by shops to promote certain items in the window, for example. However, this type of product still has its little effect and the idea of offering a transparent Oled television could be interesting for Thomson in terms of image.

Thomson could thus expose this television in store, thus allowing the greatest number of people to discover this technology. For resellers, this is an opportunity to attract more customers to the store. For the brand, it’s a nice publicity stunt around this top-of-the-range model, which will reposition Thomson as a technological leader.

This model should not remain in the state of concept, since Thomson wishes to market this transparent Oled television from next year. It would be available in 55 and 65 inch versions. Designed in partnership with LG Display, this model should ship webOS, a remote control with microphone and be Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision compatible. The TV exhibited at IFA is equipped with a 55-inch transparent Oled panel displaying a Full HD definition, but LG Display is preparing an Ultra HD transparent Oled panel for next year; it is the latter that will be used in the Thomson television.

Remember that Xiaomi has already marketed a transparent Oled TV in China for just over €6,000. It was exhibited in the company’s Parisian boutique as well as at Fnac des Ternes (Paris, 17th) for a few weeks in 2021.
