IFA 2023 – Denon introduces true wireless Hi-Fi and customizable PerL and PerL Pro

In 2022, the Australian brand Nura launched its Nura True Pro. The particularity of these headphones was based on their ability to measure the sensitivity of the user’s ear at each frequency and to adapt the sound profile accordingly. Acquired in April 2023 by Denon and its parent company Masimo, the firm has now disappeared, but the PerL and PerL Pro recently launched by Denon are a vestige.

Nura headphones replica

Denon PerL Pro.

Unsurprisingly, Denon’s new headphones look a lot like the Nura True and True Pro. They use the same circular design, as well as the same size supposed to offer great comfort and good insulation of the ear canal.

Besides the stylistic similarities, the Nura and Denon headphones sport an almost similar spec sheet, right down to battery life. In fact, the “standard” PerLs are advertised for 6 hours of listening and up to 18 additional hours thanks to the case, while the PerL Pro are supposed to offer 8 hours of listening and up to 24 additional hours by storing them in the box.

Lossless audio and custom profile

What sets PerL and PerL Pro apart is their ability to tailor the sound profile to the user based on Masimo’s Adaptive Acoustic Technology (AAT). The latter picks up the sounds emitted by the ear, called otoacoustic emissions, in response to various frequencies. It then adapts the sound profile to offer the best rendering according to the sensitivity of each ear.

Unsurprisingly, the PerLs have active noise reduction, while the Pro version gains adaptive reduction to remain attentive to outside noise.

In the same way, Denon proudly announces compatibility with the aptX Lossless codec only for the PerL Pro, granting a Bluetooth 5.3 audio stream without compression or loss. In addition, the latest Denon headphones are compatible with Dirac Virtuo spatialization for more immersion in music.

Price and availability

Point of real novelty, the PerL and PerL Pro from Denon are reminiscent of a simple rebadging of the Nura True and True Pro. On the tariff side, these true-wireless Denon are already commercially available at a price of €199 for the PerL and €349 for the Pro version.
