IFA 2023 – Eufy Mach R1: a 2-in-1 robot that does not wash like the others

Eufy has not finished getting noticed with its Mach range. Launched with the Mach V1 and its Ultra version, which the manufacturer presents as the first cordless steam floor cleaner, this one welcomes its first robot at IFA 2023. And not least. The promise of the Mach R1 may not be original since it can be summed up in vacuuming and washing the floors, but it must be recognized that it innovates for this second function.

No mop, but a roller and two water tanks

Eufy’s new robot does not include a mop as such. Instead, he bets on a soft roller, to which are added not one but two water tanks. The first is filled with clean water which the robot pours onto the roller. By rotating, the latter moistens and rubs the ground then, by continuing to rotate, ends up going back under water. It is then rinsed and the dirty water is evacuated to the second tank. This system is, according to Eufy, more effective than any mop, mainly because the brush is continuously rinsed. The part that comes into contact with the floor is therefore always clean, whereas robots with mop(s) have to go to their base to rinse it or them – when it is not up to the user to do it manually.

However, we wonder about the water consumption of this robot. He probably uses more to rinse his roller than if he only had a mop to dampen. Eufy does not advertise autonomy or capacity, but we would not be surprised if the Mach R1 still had to return regularly to its station to fill and empty its tanks.

The most complete station on the market according to Eufy

The robot station, by the way, has been named UniClean Station; it is presented as the most complete on the market, just that! However, Eufy does not dwell too much on its features, except on its ozone water sterilization function. We know for the rest that it is equipped with an LCD screen and that it supports several maintenance tasks before and after cleaning. The Mach R1 should have no trouble finding it anyway, since it’s able to map the house using a “hidden” laser rangefinder on top; understand that it does not protrude and should not interfere with the passage of the robot under the furniture. A 3D MatrixEye Sensing system is also visible on the front. It is probably an obstacle detection system, but Eufy does not say more about it for now.

So there is still a lot to discover about this Mach R1, including its price and release date. If it follows the Mach V1 brooms, this new robot should rather position itself on the high-end segment. Even very high-end.
