The leaks of the past few weeks have left no real shadow on Lenovo’s Legion Go console, and that’s it, all the info has been formalized. We were able to try this direct competitor to the Steam Deck and the Rog Ally, and here are our first impressions.
A major ally for video games
What strikes at first glance with the Legion Go is its size. The screen measures 8.8 inches and the console seems huge compared to the 7 inches of the Rog Ally and the Steam Deck. Inevitably, this is felt on the weight side, and not just a little since it does not display less than 854 g on the scale. An element to take into account if you have to carry it all day in your bag, but which is the price to pay to play on a big screen.
The panel chosen by Lenovo is a QHD 144 Hz and the manufacturer has therefore gone even further than Asus on this side. Good news for image quality and fluidity of course, even if few games will be able to benefit from it without the performance being too impacted, and it will probably be necessary to settle for a lower definition with demanding games.
On the component side, there is AMD’s Z1 Extrem processor which incorporates an RDNA graphics part. It is accompanied by 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of SSD, and the storage can be increased up to 2 TB using a microSD card. In addition, the connector is made up of two USB-C ports and we can therefore both charge it and connect it to a screen without going through an accessory, as with the Rog Ally.
Nintendo Switch style detachable joysticks
The big difference between this portable console and its direct competitors is that its joysticks are detachable, like on the Switch. It can therefore be used as a tablet, more practical, lighter and more aesthetic when you simply want to watch videos, films and series.

An integrated stand is also positioned at the back to put the console on a desk. Small original addition – even a little strange -, an accessory is provided to transform the right joystick into a mouse! What to use the PC more easily with a pointer or play FPS with the mouse and not the joysticks (which is a sacrilege, remember). Interestingly, the joysticks are hall-effect, which will prevent joy-con drift issues in the future.

The console running under Windows 11, it can be used as a tablet PC without problem. It will be possible to install all our PC game libraries, emulators and all the Windows software you want for leisure or even work.
The big question remains that of autonomy. Lenovo has boxed a 49.2 Wh battery inside the Legion Go, a slightly larger capacity than the Rog Ally, but given the screen’s high definition and refresh rate, there’s there’s something to worry about, let’s face it…
The console will be available from November at a price of €799 for the 512 GB version, a price equivalent to the Rog Ally.
