iFixit launches its kit to put an end to the Joy-Con Rift

Although Nintendo has committed to replacing affected Switch controllers with Joy-Con Drift, this is only a band-aid solution. iFixit, a company specializing in the sale of spare parts, has just launched a new kit to repair your faulty controllers yourself and say goodbye to the Joy-Con Drift.

If you are the owner of a Nintendo Switch, you may have been a victim like many players of the famous Joy-Con Drit, a problem which particularly affects the controllers of the hybrid console.

For beginners, this dysfunction causes analog stick drift in certain directions. As a result, your character will continue to move, even if you don’t touch the sticks. Enough to create some frustration. After turning a deaf ear for years, Nintendo was forced to take action thanks to joint action by several European consumer associations. Since April 2023, the Japanese firm has committed to repairing affected Joy-cons free of charge, even if the warranty has expired.

However, this is simply a band-aid solution, since your brand new controller will sooner or later end up being affected by the problem again. In January 2023, we mentioned in our columns an accessory sold by the Chinese company Gulikit which makes it possible to eradicate the Joy-Con Drift.

iFixit partners with Gulikit to offer a definitive solution to Joy-Con Drift

Called Gulikit Hall Joystick for Joy-Con, it comes as a kit composed of two modules to replace the impacted Joy-Con. The advantage of this module is that it is based on Hall effect joysticks, components that use magnets instead of potentiometers. In this way, the Hall effect sensors suffer less mechanical wear, the primary cause of Joy-Con Drift.

The only problem with this solution is that you had to have some knowledge of tinkering. Fortunately, the repair leader iFixit has just remedied the situation. Indeed, the company has signed a partnership with Gulikit.

On its site, iFixit is now offering the Gulikit Joystick for sale at the price of €16.95 or €21.95 in kit with the necessary tools. Above all, novices will be able to rely on several repair tutorials accessible free of charge. “Enough to give a second life to your Nintendo Switch controllers and inflict a checkmate on the Joy-Con Drift”, writes Ifixit in an official press release.
