The corona pandemic has been determining people's lives for almost a year. Reason enough for Iggy Pop to write a song about the virus.

Iggy Pop (73, "Real Wild Child") has released a new song – about the coronavirus. The "Godfather of Punk" starts the song with the title "Dirty Little Virus" with the line: "Covid-19 has entered the stage". In another passage it says: "Grandfather's dead / Got Trump instead" (in German: "Grandfather is dead, that's why we have Trump").

In a YouTube video about the song, Iggy Pop explains that he wanted to write "direct lyrics", not something too emotional or deep. He wants to answer the questions "who, what, when, where", he says. He left out the "why" because that would have become too complex. The corona pandemic has been determining our lives for almost a year: "If there was still a 'Man of the Year', it would be the virus, so I wrote the text," he adds with a wink.
