Igor and Grichka Bogdanoff: these “shameful lovers” who harmed them

This Tuesday, January 4, the writer Jean-Paul Enthoven paid a nice tribute to the Bogdanoff brothers in Le Point. The one who was their editor and friend returned to the story of these “shameful lovers” who had tried to harm them.

While the brothers Bogdanoff come in turn to leave us, carried away by the Covid-19, of many tributes flourish on social networks or in the media. Among them is that of Jean-Paul Enthoven, their faithful friend and editor. In an article published on the website of Point this Tuesday, January 4, the writer draws up the portrait of Igor and Grichka, full of praise for them. But he also recalls “these ashamed lovers“who almost caused the loss of the twins. Who are they? To understand, we must linger on their book, God and Science, as Raphaël Enthoven’s father explains in his article. If it was a huge success in terms of editing, it was also “as at Maupassant or Balzac, the beginning of their fall“, can we read.

The book, written in collaboration with Jean Guillon, has effectively earned them legal action. After its release in 1991 by Grasset editions, “the wicked, the jealous, ashamed lovers, undoubtedly fascinated by their beauty of the time, sued them for plagiarism“, writes the editor. Indeed, the astrophysicist Trinh Xuan Thuan had at the time put forward the resemblance of certain passages with those of his book The Secret Melody, published in 1988.

The Bogdanoffs “awarded themselves diplomas that they did not yet have”

But this is not the only lawsuit that has won God and Science to the Bogdanoff brothers. According to Jean-Paul Enthoven, the two scientists had worsened their case by “awarding themselves diplomas that they did not yet have“. On the cover of the book, they had written to be”PhDs in astrophysics and theoretical physics” and “PhDs in semiology under the supervision of Roland Barthes“, whilethey weren’t yet, having obtained their doctorate in 1999 and 2002, according to Point. It’s the weekly Marianne who finally revealed this information in 2010. The twins then brought him a libel suit, which they won, in 2014.
