PSeveral municipalities in the Ile-de-France are tightening access to short-term rentals via the Airbnb platform. In order to promote the responsible development of short-term rentals, 13 cities in the Ile-de-France region have decided to toughen up the tone. After Paris, Issy-les-Moulineaux and eleven other towns in Hauts-de-Seine, these cities now require tenants to register at the town hall, reports BFMTV. This new measure concerns Créteil, Vincennes, Colombes, Montigny-lès-Cormeilles, Versailles, Achères, Buchelay, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, Hardricourt, Issou, Orgeval, Poissy and Villennes-sur-Seine.

This rule implies obtaining a new sesame for the owners of short-term rental accommodation. The latter must therefore have a registration number if they want to rent their property on the American platform. “I was obliged to make a declaration with an allocation number for tourist taxes”, explains Nicolas, who rents his accommodation in Achères, in the Yvelines. “It corresponds to around 1.50 euros per person and per night”, he specifies.

“We need housing to support people”

The purpose of this obligation is to promote the responsible development of short-term rentals, but also to give municipalities a right of inspection, says Airbnb. Thanks to this, the mayor of Colombes, in the Hauts-de-Seine, has the power to verify the legality of his rentals. “We need accommodation to support people, to accommodate families with children and not just tourists because people have already happened to us who rented accommodation to party, disturbing the neighborhood at night”, he explains at the microphone of BFMTV. He will thus be able to ensure that the limited duration of the number of rental days, 120 per year, is respected for main residences.
