Illegal streaming service at the end: those responsible shut down the website

One of the most famous illegal streaming sites will close its doors forever. The reason: Apparently the users themselves are no longer interested in the offer.

The illegal streaming website “Popcorn Time” was taken offline again. The site was originally launched in 2014, but was taken offline again a short time later due to pressure from legal providers. Other providers grabbed the site’s code and revived it a short time later. As “Bloomberg” reports, this time it should not have been due to pressure from Netflix and Co.

The people behind “Popcorn Time” only shared a picture of Google searches for their site as the last post on the site. As can be seen on it, there was a wedding in early 2015, in which many inquiries about “Popcorn Time” were made on Google. Since then, however, the number of inquiries has steadily decreased. Since mid-2021, the line of search queries has dropped almost to zero.

Illegal streaming provider is initially giving up the sails

Accordingly, it is a decision by the operators, who can hardly attract viewers to the illegal streaming platform. It would be conceivable that the number of legal providers and their more up-to-date range has ensured that users are more likely to access them. In addition, you get numerous advantages such as language selection, higher resolutions and support from the respective service provider if something should go wrong.

However, film piracy remains a major problem for the industry. The corona pandemic in particular ensured that several films were delayed or not shown in the cinema at all. Streaming providers took a while to adjust to the new situation. In the meantime, many users resorted to illegal platforms in order to be able to see the films after all.
