That’s what Djokovic says about his bankruptcy in court

For Novak Djokovic, the Australian Open is over before it begins. His deportation from Australia is certain. The Serb’s appeal against being refused entry and the annulment of the visa was unanimously rejected.

After the decision, it is clear that the 34-year-old cannot defend his title at the first Grand Slam tournament of the year in Melbourne. His goal was to become the sole record holder in front of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with the 21st title in a Grand Slam tournament.

The tennis star comments on the Australian Federal Court’s decision with a statement:

“I would like to make a brief statement on the outcome of today’s court hearing. I will now take some time to rest and recover before commenting further.

I am extremely disappointed with the court’s decision to deny my request for judicial review of the Minister’s decision to annul my visa, which means I cannot remain in Australia and attend the Australian Open. I respect the court’s decision and will cooperate with the relevant authorities regarding my departure.

I’m uncomfortable that the focus has been on me for the past few weeks and I hope that now we can all focus on the game and the tournament I love. I wish the players, tournament officials, staff, volunteers and fans all the best for the tournament.

Finally, I would like to thank my family, friends, team, fans and fellow Serbians for their continued support. You have all been a great source of strength for me.”
