It was already 22 years ago that Jenifer won the first season of Star Academy. Two decades later, the singer remembers her state of mind at the time of her victory. We reveal everything to you.
On February 3, 2024, Pierre Garnier won the eleventh season of the Star Academy. A feeling of joy shared by the 10 winners before him. And it’s Jenifer who opened the ball, by winning the first season of the telecrochet which would soon become cult. As a reminder, the final was played on January 12, 2002 and opposed Jenifer to Mario. The victory of the pretty Corsican allowed her to win a check for one million euros to record a studio album.
And more than 20 years after her victory, Jenifer agreed to recount this moment of her life, in 50’Inside, on October 29, 2023. “I will be forever grateful, it served as a springboard for me,” she confided to Nikos Aliagas. Before adding: “I had a feeling of guilt for a long time. I said to myself: ‘Why me and not someone else?’ And then I saw a lot of talent around me. I had a feeling of an impostor.

What did Jenifer do the night she won Star Academy?
It must be said that the first season of the star Academy has seen many talents including Olivier Ruiz, Carine Haddadou, Jean-Pascal Lacoste and Mario Barravecchia. Indeed, the candidates live locked in a castle for months and experience fame overnight. The evening of her victory, Jenifer went to party without asking too many questions. “When I leave Star Ac’, we go to a nightclub all together, because there is a party around the exit from the castle. My parents, my brother, friends, everyone mixed together… A kind of cool whirlwind”, she explains to FranceTV Slash.

And while Jenifer partied all night in a nightclub with her loved ones, the next morning, the winner of the star Academy was unable to enjoy a lie-in. On the contrary, the young woman had to get up at dawn to carry out interviews. “The next day, I was held up 28 interviews, and a photo shoot, on the line”, she says, this April 10, 2024 in the podcast Purecharts. Before adding: “I have a horrible memory of this photo shoot. I didn’t recognize myself in the images, it was horrible”.

An unpleasant experience which quickly made Jenifer understand that she was going to have to impose herself and set limits. “That’s when I said to myself: ‘Okay, I’m going to have to say no at this level too, because it’s not going to go like that. I will be unhappy at a given moment, it’s not possible, or else, I’ll get into a posture or a lie, something that’s not me and that wasn’t possible.” confides Jenifer.
