Questioned by children during a program on his new presidential candidacy, Emmanuel Macron explained to them that he was going “to think a little (…) during the holiday season”.
“Do you want to be president in 2022?” Asked one of the six children aged 8 to 11 who took part in an interview on RTL radio.
“I will, a little, during the holiday season, think about that”, replied the Head of State. If there is hardly any doubt as to his will to stand for re-election, the latter is careful not to make a decision too soon. This allows him in particular to retain certain media advantages vested in the President of the Republic, vis-à-vis other competitors.
“Do I have any good ideas?”
“I want to do things for our country”, he added, pointing out however that being president, “it is a lot of personal constraints”.
“Do I have good ideas and can these ideas convince? There is no point in being president to be president, you have to be to try to do things in which you believe ”, he continued. “That’s what I have to appreciate” before embarking again in the race for the Elysee.
Asked what he could do if he did not run or if he was not re-elected, he admitted not having thought about this future. “I have not yet planned (…) There, I am really in it, so I have not yet thought about what to do next,” he said.
Many other questions asked of Emmanuel Macron concerned the Covid-19 epidemic and its consequences. “For Christmas, will I be able to go see my grandparents?” Asked a young girl. “Yes, but the best would be first that your grandparents made the recall to protect themselves”, replied the president. “Afterwards, the ideal would be that, before you go to see them, you take a test to be sure that you do not have the virus”.
Emmanuel Macron also discussed how the holidays will unfold for him. “I’m going to celebrate Christmas with my wife, our children and our grandchildren,” he explained. He also disclosed that he asked for “books and records” as gifts.
