“I’m open to everything” – Where is Salzburg’s long-running favorite Andi Ulmer headed?

Bundesliga perennial favorite, Salzburg integration figure and, even at 38, a glutton. Andreas Ulmer no longer has a playing future at his “heart club”, but the Linzer wants to continue. He is “open to all offers,” explained Ulmer, who is rumored to be linked to Switzerland. It is also still unclear what farewell the club will give him after 15 years. “Appreciation would be nice, but there’s no need for a statue.”

Ulmer currently has a lot of time to think about his immediate future; a calf injury will keep him out of action until the end of the championship. The former ÖFB team kicker can no longer intervene in the tight title fight, after all it is his 14th domestic championship – he has long been the lone leader in this ranking. Once virtually invulnerable, at the end of this season he will have missed 17 league games due to injury; he was absent for almost the entire spring. But Ulmer is not afraid that age will now take its toll. “I don’t see it that way when I look at younger colleagues who have had more injuries,” emphasized the full-back. “It’s a normal torn muscle fiber that you often have.” The fact that he played first violin for so long with the Salzburg residents who subscribe to “Jugendstil” is not least due to a conscious lifestyle. “At some point I started to use all the possibilities for optimization and preventive work,” said Ulmer. “But it can also be a pizza or a schnitzel.” “It’s no secret” “It’s no secret that I would have liked to play in Salzburg for another year or two,” says Ulmer, whose undertone always comes across as a slight disappointment the non-renewal can be interpreted. It remains to be seen whether there will be a return to the league after his active career in order to gain a foothold in the coaching business. The wonderful world of the Red Bull Academy would actually be the logical place for this. “I spent most of my footballing career here and internalized the way football can be played.”Fans started petitionThe fans have definitely taken the father of two into their hearts. Some of them recently started a petition to no longer issue Ulmer’s number 17 in the future. “It’s a great thing that fans are thinking about it, a nice sign, an exclamation mark, I feel honored.” Ulmer on RangnickOne person who influenced Ulmer during his years in Salzburg is Ralf Rangnick. It is entirely conceivable for Ulmer that the ÖFB team boss would decide to take a job at Bayern Munich – even if Bayern currently does not represent the style of play that Rangnick is pushing. “The question is what he can do for Bayern. When he came to us in Salzburg, we didn’t work the way he imagined. He also showed us that he can implement this really well and has brought this to the national team as well.”
