Long flight times and traffic jams: Traveling can sometimes be stressful. Why a holiday on a balcony can also be nice.

Since the end of the corona pandemic, there are no longer any limits to the Germans’ desire to travel, at least for this reason. Long-distance travel is very popular again, and the longing for sun, sand and sea is unbroken for many. But anyone who organizes a holiday, especially for several people, can quickly become stressed. In addition, there are the recently rising costs, which are causing problems for everyone. How about just staying at home? Because a holiday on a balcony can also have its charm.

No arguments about vacation planning

Planning a trip can be very complex and often takes a lot of time. You have to decide on a place, book flights and find accommodation. Sometimes there are quarrels. After all, everyone has their own ideas – one person wants to climb mountains, and the other wants to lie in the sun. It is usually impossible to pack several ideas of the days off into one holiday. How to solve the problem? Discuss until a compromise is found. Usually, all the stress is saved by staying at home.

No stressful situations

In order to travel to another country, in most cases you have to take a plane, get into a car or take a train, willy-nilly. If you travel during the school holidays, the airports are overcrowded and the motorways are congested. Standing in a traffic jam for hours is usually not fun. On a long-distance trip, there is also jet lag. Insomnia, tiredness and irritability are often the consequences. If you stay at home, you don’t have a problem with that.

Use time at home and try new things

If you stay at home, things can be done that would otherwise always be left undone. For example, mucking out the closet or defrosting and cleaning the freezer. This makes the to-do list smaller. It’s not really a vacation either. However, you can also go for a walk in your hometown and discover corners that you have not seen before. Just visit a new museum or explore another part of the city. In addition, you finally have time to try out new things – be it a different sport, an additional hobby or perhaps a new restaurant.

Restful sleep in your own bed

You often sleep best in your own bed. Researchers from Brown University assume that in a new environment, however, certain parts of the brain may remain active during the first night in order to be able to react quickly to danger. Another point: You can sleep longer at home. Many hotels have the breakfast buffet cleared around 11:00 a.m. Breakfast can wait at home.

No pressure

On vacation, some people want to experience as much as possible – which leads to a certain pressure. One rushes from one sight to the next, relaxation falls by the wayside. This pressure to experience does not usually arise in the home. Excursions to the lake or to the mountains are always an option, but are not a must. If you spontaneously prefer to stay in bed, the plans can often be postponed by a day.

Meet friends in a relaxed way

If you’re stuck in a stressful job, you often don’t have the nerve to go to the cinema with your best friend. If you only travel around the world on your days off, nothing will change about that. Those who stay at home, on the other hand, can meet up with friends – and perhaps without having to make an appointment for weeks.
