iMac: this major development planned by Apple

At the start of the week, Apple formalized the holding of a conference for October 30 in the United States. Openly pointing towards the announcement of new Macs, the keynote should give pride of place to MacBook Pros and iMacs with an M3 chip. However, power would not be the only development made on all models.

iMacs redesigned by Apple

It took shortly after the announcement of Apple’s next conference to hear again about Mark Gurman’s predictions. He also came to give some details around the next iMac.

In addition to a link to its *Power On* newsletter from March 2023, discussing the next iMac, the journalist from Bloomberg reiterates several of its predictions around the next model.

As a reminder, Mark Gurman declared at the end of winter that the iMac would be “one of the company’s first machines based on the M3”. The replacement of the M1 chip by this third generation of Apple Silicon chip would thus be the major development proposed by Apple.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is on the same line as Mark Gurman. He also believes that Apple’s “Scary Fast” event will focus on multiple M3 chips, hinting at the possibility of M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max variants.

For information, reports mention that the M3 chip would retain the same number of cores as the M2 (8 CPU cores + 10 GPU cores) and a maximum LPDDR5 RAM capacity of 24 GB. However, the engraving fineness would evolve: going from 5 mm to 3 mm. The opportunity for this new generation to offer better performance and greater energy efficiency.

Mark Gurman then confirms that the iMac M3 will benefit from a new design. “The computer will have some of its internal components moved and redesigned, and the manufacturing process for the iMac stand attachment is different”, he specified last March. For the colors, the journalist does not envisage any big changes, expecting that the colors will “remain similar” to those of the iMac M1.

The iMacs would remain there for the end of 2023. However, Apple has more ambitious plans for this range of computers. A recent report once again spoke of an iMac with a 32-inch screen and mini-LED technology.
