Beeper Mini is stepping up its game to overcome recent challenges imposed by Apple, determined to make iMessage accessible to Android users. From now on, a jailbroken iPhone will be necessary to use Apple’s service on another smartphone.
Apple’s exclusive iMessage club suffered a few intrusions earlier this month thanks to Beeper Mini, an Android application that allows non-iPhone users to access the famous blue bubbles. An Android device using the Beeper Mini app could then send messages on iMessage as if using an iPhonewith encrypted blue bubbles, read receipts, inline responses and high-quality multimedia.
The problem is that Apple quickly retaliated by blocking the application. Since then, Beeper seems to have almost given up on its dream of allowing Android smartphones to use iMessage, but this was without taking into account a new desperate initiative by the company.
Android can also use iMessage, provided you have an old jailbroken iPhone
Beeper Mini has revealed new options, albeit with additional requirements, to enable reliable iMessage communication for Android enthusiasts. Beeper users now have the choice of the following solutions:
- Beeper Cloud (Mac version) : Mac users can leverage Beeper Desktop’s “Reconnect” feature, updating it to establish their iMessage connection through a unique personal registration code.
- Beeper Cloud (without Mac): People without a Mac can ask a friend for help using Beeper Cloud on their Mac. Users can then obtain an iMessage registration code and enter it into the latest Beeper Desktop application to access iMessage.
- Beeper Mini (Advanced) : Older iPhone users who want to take an advanced approach can jailbreak their device and follow Beeper’s instructions to generate iMessage registration codes. However, the iPhone must remain plugged into power, be connected to the Internet, and be in your home for this method to be effective.
Cherry on the cake, Beeper partners with service to offer jailbroken iPhones, particularly for users of its Beeper Mini service. This option is expected to be available over the next year, depending on demand. This initiative is therefore particularly practical for those who find jailbreaking tedious, who want avoid associated risks or who don’t have an old spare iPhone. It now remains to be seen how much these iPhones will cost.
