Immigration law: “An ideological victory for the RN”, “a moment of dishonor”, reactions to the agreement reached

Whether in the Salle des Quatre Colonnes or on social networks, deputies and senators react to the outcome found during the joint committee (CMP) concerning the text on immigration, carried by the Minister of Interior, Gérald Darmanin. The latter welcomed Tuesday on the social network X the “agreement” reached by the CMP, believing that its measures “protect the French”.

“An agreement has been reached by Parliament on the immigration text. This is a good thing: measures which protect the French, essential firmness towards delinquent foreigners, and measures of justice such as the (historic) end detention of minors or regularization for undocumented workers, he wrote about the text which must still be submitted to a vote by both chambers of parliament in the evening.

“A law to toughen immigration conditions” for the far right

Concerning the boss of LR, Eric Ciotti said Tuesday that the Republicans had “imposed” the text on immigration from the CMP and assured that all 62 deputies of his party will approve it. “Today, it is the Republicans who, thanks to their work, thanks to their ideas, are imposing this text,” the president of LR declared to the press, who considered that this text constitutes “a real turning point”.

On the side of the extreme right, the RN deputies will vote for the immigration bill “as it emerges from the joint joint commission”, their president Marine Le Pen announced on Tuesday, welcoming “a law toughening conditions of immigration.

“We can rejoice in an ideological advance, an even ideological victory for the National Rally, since national priority is now enshrined in this law, that is to say the advantage given to the French over the foreigners present on our territory in access to a certain number of social benefits which are today subject to conditions for foreigners that are not severe enough for our liking”, she added.

“No one was obliged to give themselves like that to the Republicans and the far right”

As for the left, it shows its discontent. The leader of the socialist deputies Boris Vallaud judged that the agreement reached Tuesday in the joint committee (CMP) between the majority and the Republicans on the immigration bill was “a moment of dishonor for the government”.

“It is an absolute shame and I hope that there will be in the ranks of the majority women and men of courage and principle to refuse this compromise,” added the MP, believing that “no one was obliged to give oneself like that to the Republicans and the far right.”

For Mathilde Panot, president of the LFI group in the National Assembly, explains on “The Assembly can still prevent the worst and vote on the motion to reject,” she added to her tweet.

For Sandrine Rousseau, the environmentalist MP, explains on BFMTV that the agreements “will lead to a democratic but also a humanitarian crisis.”

NGOs disagree with this CMP

Immigrant defense organizations denounced on Tuesday the political agreement reached in Parliament around the immigration bill, “the most regressive in at least 40 years” in France according to associations and unions, who deplore a text ” uninhibited xenophobia.

The text, on which deputies and senators meeting in a joint committee (CMP) reached an agreement, “is now neither more nor less than the most regressive bill for at least 40 years for rights and living conditions foreign people, including those present for a long time in France”, deplored in a joint press release around fifty associations, unions and NGOs, including the Human Rights League.
