Improved night vision, fall detection: the Pixel range is enriched with new features

Google likes to proceed by “Feature Drops”, that is to say by adding new features, to upgrade its smartphones. The American, whose Pixels have gained in popularity over the generations, intends to retain its customers by upgrading its old mobiles, and especially its Pixel 6, marketed since the fall of 2021, by providing them with some of the options previously reserved for Pixel 7.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro thus benefit, through the update being deployed, from an improvement in the Night Vision function, dedicated to capturing images in low light. This is nothing new, but has clearly gained in speed on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, which to do this rely on the Tensor G2 chip. The previous generation, “thanks to new algorithms powered by the Google Tensor”must now take advantage of this same velocity, which remains difficult to quantify with accuracy.

This “drop” includes other features, including the arrival of the Magic Eraser on all Pixels – but not only – through the Google Photos application; the opening of the option, available since the Pixel 6 generation , had been announced at the end of February, and is therefore no longer exclusive to devices powered by a Tensor chip.

Google is also planning to store health data collected on a daily basis on smartphones (all Pixels combined), and allows users of Nest devices to view their timers simultaneously on their mobile and their connected screen. As for the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, they can now accommodate two eSIMs operating in Dual-Standby. Finally, we note, in the field of connected watches, that the Pixel Watch gains the fall detection function (seen last January), allowing the automatic sending of emergency messages if necessary.
