The city of Salzburg’s professional fire brigade was deployed for 2,212 technical missions and 1,164 fire missions in 2021. In total, it was challenged 3,376 times. Most of the technical operations concerned the opening of the apartment, with the fire fighters helping out 312 times. They were called 203 times because of elevator problems, reported the professional fire brigade.
226 missions concerned hazards on traffic areas such as liquids or objects that the fire brigade removed. Storm damage had to be dealt with 131 times, a pipe burst 45 times and the emergency services helped an animal out of danger or predicament 106 times. 901 of the 1,164 fires were not detected. Among other things, 460 false alarms (for example because cooking fumes triggered the detector) and 243 false alarms as well as 25 maliciously and six incorrectly triggered alarms went off. The professional fire brigade had to fight two major fires in Salzburg in 2021. Most of the actual operations involved – 125 times – charred food and 92 fires in paper or garbage cans. Only once did a Christmas tree or an Advent arrangement set off a fire.
