In addition to its S24, Samsung also has its new health and fitness ring, does that tempt you?

Samsung will very soon offer a ring to those who want to keep an eye on their constants, but who find the connected watches and bracelets too bulky.

It’s hard to miss it, Samsung held its January 2024 Galaxy Unpacked event a few hours ago. The star of this presentation was of course the Galaxy S24 smartphone series, with a complete presentation of the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra. However, it is another product that had the privilege of completing this Galaxy Unpacked: the Galaxy Ring.

A ring displayed for a few seconds

Samsung’s connected ring actually made a very brief appearance at the very end of the conference. You can watch the passage in the video below; it starts from around 1:11:20, after the announcements relating to the Samsung Health application.

As you will have noticed, the announcement is limited to a simple teaser of a few seconds. It nevertheless allows you to have a first visual of the product, and above all, to make its existence official.

So it won’t be a scoop, the Galaxy Ring looks like… a ring. The sequence reveals several sensors. However, at this stage, we do not know what types of measures and, more generally, what functionalities will be offered.

A major problem ?

When this device (a patent) was first mentioned, there was talk of a “a smart ring for tracking, measuring, monitoring and uploading health, fitness and sleep information” ; a priorithe ring would target athletes more.

In fact, Oura connected rings offer a whole range of measurements; monitoring heart rate, blood oxygen level, evaluating sleep cycles, etc. Concretely, the company mentions twenty biometric signals.

Nothing to envy of most connected watches, all this in a more compact format, but with the constraint of a device that is significantly less autonomous, since it does not have a screen.

Let’s also keep in mind the issues related to size. While it is easy to adjust your watch strap – or simply change it – this is not the case for a ring. In the case of those marketed by Oura, customers can order a free ring sizer to determine the diameter that suits them, or simply choose the right size if they already know it.

Coming back to the Galaxy Ring, it was talked about again at the start of the 2023 school year through the Galaxy Wearable application. This suggested a release year: 2024.

The advertising granted by Samsung on the occasion of an event as major as the Galaxy Unpacked tends to confirm nuptials in the coming months. Maybe this summer, during the presentation of the future Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip?
