In August – Hollywood star Malkovich comes to Salzburg

Not only sacred sounds await the Kirch’Klang audience this year.

Every good festival has a festival wine, so of course we also have one for our audience this year,” says festival director Martin Haselböck. At the upcoming Kirch’Klang, he not only wants to make the guests’ glasses ring, but above all various sacred rooms throughout the Salzkammergut. “There aren’t that many concert halls in the area, but there are a number of wonderful sacred buildings,” says Haselböck. From May 13th to September 30th, 2023, the festival will perform in the town parish church in Bad Ischl, the parish church of St. Wolfgang, the parish church of Attersee and the Konradkirche in Oberwang near Mondsee. One of the highlights of this year’s programme: Oscar winner John Malkovich will pay a visit to Salzburg. He will read from the epistolary novel “Address Unknown” in Leopoldskron Palace. Festival director Haselböck was able to lure another top-class American to the city of Mozart: opera singer Thomas Hampson will be seen and heard in several roles at this year’s festival: as a singer, narrator and participant in a discussion. The topics of displacement, exile and cultural exchange will be addressed in this program cycle. For the latter, Hampson often worked between the USA and Austria.
