In Elden Ring, your hero will finally look like a human

Elden Ring’s character editor has leaked, allowing you to discover some of its possibilities. And also to see how FromSoftware has revised its copy since its previous laughable games.

Some people love to spend time shaping their character when they embark on a great adventure. It’s even a real game in the game for those who are willing to devote several hours to the creation of their hero or their heroine. For this, the developers provide more or less advanced tools, and that ofElden ring should satisfy the creatives – according to a leak shared by IGN on January 10.

YouTuber ER-SA uploaded a video showing off several options that would bring a believable-looking character to life – which was not the case with previous FromSoftware games. The video is no longer available (there’s another one here), but IGN has taken a few captures that offer an editor’s preview ofElden ring, whose release is set for February 25, 2022. And players seem delighted with the changes made since Dark Souls III and Bloodborne.

Finally a character editor up to the task in a From Software game

If the few images are a source of satisfaction for fans of FromSoftware games, it is simply because the Japanese studio has never really focused its efforts on the character editor. Just look at this comparison signed SkeleMann in a tweet from January 9 to realize the gap between Bloodborne (2015) and Elden ring (2022):

The character created in Elden ring looks much more realistic than the others. On the forum Will reset, catpurrcat highlights the change: ” Wow, they look like people rather than monstrous ghouls (but I’ll make an undead anyway). “In the capture below, we can appreciate the very fine modeling at the level of the musculature. The abdominals, the pectorals, the biceps or the shoulders are perfectly sculpted (even the thighs are drawn with realism). Unlike Cyberpunk 2077 (where the editor is also very advanced), we see our character all the time in Elden Ring. Hence the importance of a successful creative tool.

At the same time, it will always be possible to imagine a heroine or a hero with a frightening appearance, by playing on the sliders which change the facial features and the morphology. We can even choose an exotic skin color (green, red…). ” Big evolution compared to Dark Souls III. I did not expect that. And you can still do abominations! Everyone will be happy this time », Rejoices MeltedDreams.

It is very satisfying to see that FromSoftware has upped its demands in terms of graphics fidelity. A motivation visibly born from the comparison with the flamboyant remake of Demon’s Souls (available on PS5), revealed by director Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview with Edge earlier this year. He explains : “ I think our graphics team had more pressure than the others. And not just with Elden Ring, but with all the games we make. Graphic fidelity is not one of our priorities. »A healthy awareness.
