First demonstration after Navalny’s death in Berlin

Just a few hours ago it was announced that Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny had died in custody. The first protest action is now taking place in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin.

Shortly after the news of the death of Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny in prison, the first demonstrators protested in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin. At midday, a few dozen people gathered in front of the large embassy building on the Unter den Linden boulevard.

Many demonstrators carried posters with a photo of Navalny, others carried flags or banners. One read: “Putin is a killer.” Little by little there were more people. The police accompanied the demonstration.

Alexei Navalny was the best-known opposition figure in Russia. The 47-year-old served a year-long prison sentence in a penal colony in northern Siberia. Navalny was convicted, among other things, of alleged extremism.
