In Languedoc, the Coastal Forum for Seasonal Employment is a flop

The job fair organized at Grau-du-Roi welcomed a small handful of candidates.

As empty as the beach on a rainy day! The absence of candidates at the Coastal Seasonal Employment Forum, organized earlier this week in the seaside resort of Grau-du-Roi, illustrates the difficulties that catering professionals will have to recruit this summer. The companies of Gard and Hérault had nevertheless played the game: 145 recruiters were present, with 1655 job offers to be filled for the coming season… Alas, many lost their morning since only a few dozen candidates went on the spot!

“There was not a cat. It’s catastrophic for the profession,” laments Jacques Mestre, president of the professional union Umih 34 and owner of the restaurant Le Clipper’s in La Grande-Motte. For this professional, who employs 17 employees in season, the catering pays for the broken pots of the closures linked to the Covid. “When we sounded the alarm in the prefecture almost two years ago, we were told that we were just complainers… Here is the result today! Even by offering a net salary of 2000 euros in the room, and training, we have no candidate.he adds, with the fear of seeing establishments forced to downgrade due to lack of staff.

This forum will also have highlighted the discrepancy of some with current health obligations. “The vaccination pass was requested at the entrance. As a result, many people could not access it and came to drop off their CV at the reception», we explain at Camping du Boucanet, where around 70 seasonal workers work.
