After Châteauroux, it’s Lille’s turn. As in the Berry city, thousands of hotel nights have been canceled by the organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the Northern prefecture, which is to host part of the basketball and handball events, announced Monday January 22 the Organizing Committee (Cojop), confirming information from the voice of the North.
“Seven months before the Games, we have released rooms in Lille which we estimate can (still) be reserved between now and the start of the competitions, respecting the terms of the contract”the organizers confirmed to Agence France-Presse, without specifying the number of nights concerned.
“It wasn’t a good surprise”, for his part regretted Boris Delecroix, president of the Lille-Métropole hotel club, which brings together 90 hotels. He considered that these cancellations represented “around 2,000 nights per day over around ten days”.
In Châteauroux, after readjusting its needs, the Cojop suddenly canceled 39% of the nights reserved for its personalities and officials, or 492 rooms, including those which were also canceled for before and after the event.
“We are quite optimistic with this period of the Olympics which is going to be busy. We are used to hosting major sporting events in Lille, we are experienced in this exercise. We remain confident. We are used to major cancellations in advance”added Boris Delecroix.
“We are quite close to Paris too, and some will perhaps prefer to stay in Lille, we remain in relatively accessible price ranges. But we’re not going to hide, it’s not great news”he concluded.
