In Maxglan – thousands of fools celebrated a huge carnival party

Even the weather god put on his fool’s hat! In almost spring-like temperatures, Salzburg’s largest carnival party took place with thousands of partygoers in Maxglan. 38 lavishly decorated floats paraded through the streets on Saturday. Small political asides were also a must – much to the delight of the countless visitors.

The employees of the municipal building yard, for example, were traveling with a “climate adhesive” truck. “Why I went hacking,” it read. The regulars’ table “Let’s Fetz” from St. Koloman took aim at the current tunnel construction site on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) with their elaborately designed float. In contrast to the motorway – due to the holiday shift change there were once again traffic jams on Saturday with delays of almost two hours – the carnival procession through Maxglan moved much faster. Of course, the thousands of partygoers did not allow themselves to be stressed. After all, there was a lot to catch up on. The move in Maxglan took place again this year for the first time in four years due to corona. As always, the route led from Siezenheimer Straße via Hans-Schmid-Platz and the intersection of Innsbrucker Bundesstraße/Maxglaner Hauptstraße to Rochusgasse and on to Bräuhausstraße. Organizer Franz Stary and his team have been busy preparing for the move since October: “ For me, the greatest thing is when visitors also dress up. This is the greatest appreciation for us.”
