The situation is still critical but after very, very choppy months, hurricane omicron appears to be weakening as the peak of the 5th wave of Covid gradually recedes from our lives.
And, little by little, the sanitary noose is loosening. Since the beginning of the month, wearing a mask is no longer compulsory outdoors, there is no longer a gauge in the stadiums or the obligation to telecommute. And by the end of the school year, students could finally drop the mask.
And if the incidence rates are still high, they continue to decline very markedly. In the Rhône, they fell below 1,500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. And Ain is about to cross the same course.
Those of the Haute-Loire and the Jura, the highest in the region, are finally just below 2,000 cases per 100,000.
Still very, very far from the maximum alert threshold of 400 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Still more than 50 cases per 100,000, but this downtrend bodes well.
Because at the same time, and this is an important indicator, hospitalizations have finally entered a phase of decline in our departments, more particularly in Ain and Rhône.
In 7 days, the number of people hospitalized went from 2018 to 1,968. And the number of people treated in critical care, from 239 to 218. Something we hadn’t seen for weeks.
64 people lost their lives
And the virus continues to kill. In the space of a week, 64 people lost their lives due to Covid: 8 in Ain, 5 in Jura, 19 in Loire, 2 in Haute-Loire and 30 in Rhône.
