In Russia, the anti-war are mobilizing

They were thousands last Thursday, the day of the beginning of the invasion, to parade in the cities of Russia against the attack launched by their country against Ukraine. Since then, celebrities, athletes and journalists have been trying to organize themselves for an immediate end to this war.

“If you are currently ashamed of being Russian, you are not Russian”, launched the owner of the television channel RT, financed by the Russian State. And yet, despite the risk of arrest, many are defying the authorities to protest against the war in Ukraine. The 2021 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and editor of the opposition newspaper, Dmitry Muratov expressed his shame in a video posted on Youtube.

“I write these words with a reason. When my children grow up and discover this moment in history, they will hallucinate and ask me Dad, and you, what did you do? I want to have written proof saying, I did not choose this regime and I did not support its imperialist rage,” popular blogger Yuri Doud wrote in a post that garnered a million likes. .

A journalist, Elena Tchernenko, assured that she had been excluded from the pool of journalists following the Minister of Foreign Affairs, for having launched an anti-war petition at her work. Two communist deputies who had voted for the recognition of the independence of the pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday, also denounced the invasion.

On social networks, between the Ukrainian flags as profile photos, the testimonies of support have not ceased. While the #нетвойне (no to war) was at the top of trends on Twitter, this Saturday, a petition on the site change.org collected more than 750,000 signatures.
