In Sevran, behind the shootings, the shadow of drug trafficking turf wars

The first assault was launched on Friday May 3, shortly before midnight. Bursts fired from an automatic rifle hit eight people in front of the Micro-Folie cultural center, in the Beaudottes district, in Sevran (Seine-Saint-Denis). A 28-year-old man, hit twice, died on the spot. The second shooting took place in broad daylight less than seventy-two hours later, in front of a neighborhood house, on Sunday, May 5, at 6:15 p.m. An individual with a masked face came forward, riddled two men with bullets of caliber 9 millimeters, before volatilizing.

A week after this murderous weekend, the time of mourning mixes with that of the investigation. Faced with two distinct modes of operation and victims who do not all have the same link with trafficking, two investigations were launched in parallel under the direction of the Bobigny public prosecutor’s office. However, they lead to the same influence of drug trafficking, established for a long time between Sevran and Aulnay-sous-Bois.

Such events are not trivial news items: this is what the mayor of Sevran (various left), Stéphane Blanchet, wrote in a press release on Saturday May 4, still in shock from the previous night. “The outbreak of this violence does not occur by chance”, he emphasized. Sunday’s shooting only reinforced the need for explanations. It also puts into perspective the tension observed in past days. “We had alerts for three weeks near Aulnay-sous-Bois, in the Gros-Saule district, where Sevranais were involved in acts of violence”tells the World Mr. Blanchet. “We were afraid that something very serious was going to happen. »

Occasional demonstration of force

The first elements of the investigations do not make it possible to establish a direct link between the dramas of Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. The nighttime shooting, more mysterious, recalls the “waterings” intended to intimidate competitors, to strengthen or recover a contested deal territory between rival clans, even if it means shooting without worrying about the identity of the target. Especially since one of the twelve deal points listed in the city is located not far from there. That of Sunday, however, targets victims well known to investigators. Their names lead back to a long history of attacks and responses, going back around fifteen years. Because it is through blood that commercial disputes between local drug trafficking clans were settled. Cycles of revenge fueled by stubborn family hatred.
