In Spain, two and a half years in prison for a famous clairvoyant of pirate television

LETTER FROM MADRID

For a clairvoyant, Pepita Vilallonga, it seems, saw nothing coming. On December 27, 2021, this popular Spanish fortune-teller was sentenced at first instance in Barcelona to two and a half years in prison for fraud, along with a ban on working in the field of esotericism. Two partners, including his own son, received the same sentence. The court insisted on “the particular degree of inhumanity and cruelty” which they demonstrated. The three convicts having appealed, they will however be imprisoned only if the sentence is confirmed at second instance.

The facts date back to 2016. At the time, Rosalia P., a 57-year-old woman, a former teacher suffering from manic-depressive psychosis, who had been on early retirement for a year, requested a divinatory tarot consultation with M.me Villalonga. The clairvoyant’s verdict is without appeal, she tells the judge: she is going to perish from a “sure and imminent death”, her and her dogs, before the end of the week. Someone threw him ” the evil eye “ and she “carries death on his back”.

The victim, presenting a “great fragility” and “emotional vulnerability”, dives into a “state of amazement and insecurity”, summarizes the court in its verdict. Terrified, she loses the ability to question the fortune-teller’s words. To remedy this, she explains to him that there are indeed a few spells and incantations, but they have a cost. The client will immediately withdraw 4,400 euros in cash from the bank. Just enough to delay his death.

To really save her, it’s another pair of sleeves: a Vatican priest, Father Giorgio, must come in person, he is told. And the false priest sputtering a mixture of Spanish and Italian does indeed show up after the payment of 10,000 euros. He asks for a garment from Rosalia, whom he intends to bury in Jerusalem. The ritual becomes more complicated a few days later, when it is explained to him that Father Giorgio was the victim of an accident when he got off the plane, no doubt a consequence of his “evil eye”. She must pay 17,000 euros more.

A previous complaint closed

Stripped of her savings, Rosalia P. can no longer continue her “treatment”. The seer and her associates no longer answer his calls. In total, she has spent more than 31,000 euros on the business and is waiting for death to come and get her. And wait… It will take him a few more weeks before deciding to file a complaint.
