In the chassis – supplier has “solved Tesla’s squeaking problem”

Tesla will probably not be particularly happy about this: The supplier company Meyle is trumpeting a problem that the Tesla models 3 and Y apparently have and at the same time offering a solution – with a newly developed spare part.

According to the company, complaints from “Tesla drivers from all over the world” have been increasing since the beginning of the year, reporting annoying squeaking noises from the front axle area. Such unpleasant noises are particularly unpleasant in electric cars because they are more noticeable in the otherwise prevailing silence than in vehicles with combustion engines. A development team at Meyle has identified the problem and developed an improved spare part that reliably ensures that peace is restored. The specialists have found that the Tesla wishbone is not sufficiently protected from moisture due to its design: when it rains, water flows directly from the windshield via the water drain to the wishbone. As a result, water enters the ball joint and thus leads to the squeaking noise. In rare cases, the steering precision can also suffer, Meyle reports. These problems have been solved, and the new development also has a larger ball joint diameter than the original part and can therefore distribute the forces that occur over a larger area. This is essential for a long-lasting spare part.Particularly high loads in e-carsDue to the high performance potential and the high vehicle weight of electric vehicles, chassis components are subjected to high loads, the company explains: “These conditions put enormous stress on the control arm. The bearing bushes can also wear out prematurely under this heavy load.” Drivers usually noticed the defect through squeaking noises originating from the upper wishbone of the front axle. “Others, on the other hand, report rattling of the chassis.” It should be available for Tesla drivers and workshops at the beginning of 2023.
