In the cold Danube – boat in a lopsided position: occupants jumped overboard

In Upper Austria, a dragon boat got stuck on the Danube near the Ottensheim power plant on Sunday afternoon. The 20 occupants jumped into the cold water of the river because they feared the boat would capsize, it said.

On Sunday, 20 people, including 19 paddlers and 1 helmsman, were on the Danube with a dragon boat on the regatta course in Ottensheim in the direction of Puchenau. On the way back to the regatta course, around 3:20 p.m., there were strong waves due to two passing ships. As a result, water sloshed into the dragon boat, causing it to lose buoyancy, sinking deeper and finally below the waterline.75 meters from the shoreA few occupants got out of the paddle boat and swam to the shore in Ottensheim, about 75 meters away, where passers-by called the emergency room was dropped. The remaining occupants, some in the boat and some in the water holding onto the boat, steered it to shore. The people involved were able to get out of the water and paddle boat on their own and were uninjured. Two had to be given first aid by the rescue team because of the shock.
