In the Gasteinertal – search operation in Pongau: vacationers remain missing

A vacationer from the Czech Republic has been missing in the Gastein Valley for over a week. The mountain rescue and alpine police launched another major search operation, which was unsuccessful.

“We’ve been searching a huge area for a whole day since this morning,” says Pongauer district manager and Gastein mountain rescuer Gerhard Kremser. A total of 50 emergency services from the Bad Hofgastein, Bad Gastein and Hüttschlag mountain rescue services, as well as ten teams of dog handlers, five alpine police officers and the Libelle police helicopter were deployed. Of course, always with the focus on a wayside search or off the hiking trails, which are currently heavily frequented. But unfortunately there was no evidence of the missing person,” said Kremser. The operation ended in the evening without success. According to the alpine police, there will be no further searches for the time being if there are no new clues. The Czech came to Bad Hofgastein on July 29 as a holiday guest. The hostess saw the 65-year-old for the last time in the morning of July 30. The next day he was gone – a missing persons report was created. Several search operations by mountain rescue, dog unit, water rescue and fire brigade followed.
