The municipality of Glarus Süd has applied for help from the Swiss Army.
Next week the military will build a bridge over the Sernf River.
According to the municipality, residential buildings and commercial buildings that were cut off by the landslide should be made accessible again.
At the end of August, two landslides in the “Wagenrunse” area near Schwanden completely destroyed half a dozen buildings. More were damaged. Around 100 people had to be evacuated. Nobody got hurt. The community is currently creating the necessary concrete bases for the bridge, she writes in a statement.
Kantonsstrasse remains closed due to construction work
The Swiss Army’s work will take place on the nights of October 4th to October 8th at the latest. The cantonal road from the Au district in Schwanden in the direction of Elm will then remain closed to traffic from 7 p.m. to midnight with no bypass option.
The emergency bridge must also be able to be used by trucks and heavy construction machinery, Regula Banzer, media spokeswoman for the Glarus Süd municipality, told the SDA news agency.
The bridge is also used by residents and businesses whose properties are not in an exclusion zone but who are cut off from the road network due to the landslides.
