France Télévisions announced Tuesday, October 18 in a press release the production of the series “In the shadows”, an adaptation of the political thriller written by former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe in collaboration with Gilles Boyer. This fiction will be produced by Pierre Schoeller and Cédrid Anger. We don’t know the cast yet, but filming is scheduled for spring 2023.

France Télévisions will produce the series of a former Prime Minister, that of Edouard Philippe. We knew for two years that he was working on the adaptation of his book In the dark serial. He had even been invited to the Series Mania festival to talk about politics and series last year. But he had never revealed if he had a producer and who it was.

Six 52-minute episodes

We now know that it will be France Télévisions. The public group has just announced that it will produce these six 52-minute episodes. Edouard Philippe does not work alone: he co-wrote the book with Gilles Boyer, who then became his special adviser at Matignon. Together, they worked on the script.

A “corrosive comedy on the uses of French politics”

And then they are accompanied by what is called a showrunner, a kind of director of the series, who oversees everything to make it a success. And this showrunner is Pierre Schoeller, a director known in particular for his film The exercise of the statea political film that won three César awards.

It is therefore not by chance that Pierre Scholler was chosen since the series will also be political. It will be a thriller in the middle of the presidential campaign, against a backdrop of fraud and the conquest of power. France Télévisions adds that it is also a “corrosive comedy on the uses of French politics”. Filming is scheduled for spring 2023.
