In the spirit of the prosecution – four guilty verdicts in the machete murder trial

At the end of April 2023, four men are said to have literally executed a 32-year-old Algerian. On Tuesday, the defendants had to go back to the dock of the Vienna Regional Court. The main defendant received a life sentence.

The verdict in the machete murder trial, which concluded on Tuesday at the Vienna Criminal Regional Court, is four times guilty. Prison sentences: Two 17 years, one 15 years and one life sentence. Four men from Algeria aged 21, 22, 25 and 29 are on trial at the Vienna regional court on Tuesday evening for the so-called machete murder in the sense of the indictment found guilty and sentenced to long prison sentences. The 22-year-old main defendant received a life sentence. The 21-year-old received 15 years in prison, the 25 and 29-year-old men each received 17 years in prison. No chance of survival. The majority of the jury – in the case of the 22-year-old unanimously – came to the conclusion that all four were directly involved in the deliberate killing of 31-year-old Djafaar H. were involved. According to the first instance verdict, they had ambushed him on April 20, 2023 at the Jägerstrasse subway station in Vienna-Brigittenau and attacked him with a 70 centimeter long machete and knives after he had been sprayed with pepper spray and thus incapacitated . The victim actually had no chance of survival due to the large number of injuries sustained and the resulting blood loss. The Algerians, like their later victim, also belonged to a North African drug gang. They probably fell out with the victim because of disputes over drugs and conflicts in their shared homeland. On the evening of the crime, the situation may have escalated. The victim’s arms and legs were almost chopped off with two machetes.
