Incident in Zillertal – German injured recovered from via ferrata

In inhospitable conditions and slippery terrain, the mountain rescue team in the Zillertal had to rush to the aid of a German.

On Saturday, the 37-year-old German climbed the “Talbach” via ferrata in Hippach. At around 9.50 a.m. he injured his foot above the wooden bridge in the steep rock face and could not go any further. Then six men from the Zell am Ziller mountain rescue team and an alpine policeman climbed up to the injured person.

Abseiling and mountain stretches
In the rain and on a slippery rock face, the man was roped down to the wooden bridge and then brought into the valley by means of a mountain stretcher along the hiking trail. There it was picked up by his colleagues. The man would have imagined the last day of his vacation to be different.
