Twitter has just implemented a brutal change, which prevents non-subscribers from seeing anything.

Abrupt changes have been aplenty on Twitter since Elon Musk took over the social network a year ago. But, the one that just fell on the corner of our heads could well be one of the most important in the history of the blue bird.

Connected, or out!

You must have noticed. For almost two days now, when you click on a Twitter link, you can’t see anything appear unless you have identified yourself first. A change that could have been a bug or an error, as breakdowns are no longer rare on the most controversial social network on the planet.

But very quickly, we were able to understand by reading the interventions of Elon Musk that this time it was indeed a decision of the management. Unidentified people can no longer see anything, while verified users (including Twitter Blue subscribers), non-verified and newly registered users are subject to different viewing quotas.

Towards a structural change of Twitter?

Elon Musk explains that this change would be a response to the use of Twitter data by third parties. ” Several hundred organizations (maybe more) were harvesting data from Twitter in extremely aggressive ways, to the point of affecting the actual user experience “, he thus detailed on his account. He also indicated in another of his messages that these were temporary changes.

Except that statement was about the issue of boundaries. One can then wonder if registration with Twitter will not eventually become an obligation for all those wishing to take a quick look.
