Income tax, property tax… 12 dates to watch by the end of 2022

Admittedly, the TV license fee is ancient history, just like the housing tax, or almost. But the tax calendar at the end of the year remains potentially busy: payment of property tax, deduction at source of income tax, tax credits and reductions, etc. Here is the fiscal calendar for the end of 2022, with some chances that are too often overlooked.

October 17, 22 or 27

Payment or last installment of property tax. Monday, October 17 is the official deadline for the payment of this local tax aimed at property owners. However, this deadline only concerns those who pay the property tax with a physical medium: cheque, SEPA TIP, cash at a tax office, or bank card from a tobacconist approved for local payment. It is also the date of the 10th monthly levy of property tax for a third of the owners, those who have subscribed to the monthly payment. For online payment, you have 5 additional days to validate the payment, until October 22. This payment will be debited on Thursday, October 27 from your bank account: if you have paid online before October 22, therefore, but also if you have subscribed to the withdrawal at maturity as 30% of the owners (provided you claim it before the 30 september).

Local taxes: do you pay more property tax than your neighbors in the department?

October 19

Council tax notice. Did you receive a transfer from the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFiP) on September 6 or October 6? You are therefore one of those who had monthly paid the housing tax and/or the public audiovisual contribution, and the tax authorities have already refunded you what you have paid in excess. Your notice of housing tax and TV license fee will be posted on impots.gouv.fr from October 19, or sent by post at the end of the month if you have refused the zero paper. Finally, if you had opted for the monthly payment but you still have a balance to pay, the notice received from October 19 will notify you of the amount to be paid. In theory, if you have not chosen the monthly payment, you have already received your annual notice.

October 27

Income tax balance. Second levy of the balance of the tax, if the amount remaining to be paid exceeded 300 euros. On your account, payment is made by order of DIRECTION GENERALE DES FINANCES PUBLIQUES with the wording income tax balance 2021 Invoice number XXX.

November 15

Property tax surplus. You have monthly paid your property tax like almost 35% of real estate owners? If it has increased in 2022, you can already anticipate an 11th and final withdrawal. Example: your 2021 property tax was 1000 euros. On this basis, you were deducted 100 euros each month from January to October. Finally, your property tax notice announced an annual tax of 1085 euros following the cumulative increase in the basis of calculation and your municipal rate. In this case, the additional debit of 85 euros will be made on November 15, as indicated on the schedule on your notice. The levy continues even until a twelfth puncture of the year, on December 15, in the event of a very significant increase in the property tax in 2022.

November 15, 20 or 25

Payment of council tax. The 15th for physical payment, the 20th to validate your online payment. This double chance only concerns a minority of the population, the wealthiest 20% still paying the housing tax, for the last year of existence of this local tax in its current form. In 2023, there will only be a tax on secondary residences. Households liable for the last time in 2022 for their main residence will only pay a tax corresponding to 30% of what they would have paid without the Macron 2017 reform of local taxation. Finally, if you opt for online payment or direct debit, note Friday, November 25 as the date of debit from your bank account.

November 25 (bis)

Income tax balance. Third withdrawal of a series of four punctures, for those whose balance to be paid in September exceeded 300 euros.

November 30

Tax on your savings interest. Here is an opportunity that many savers ignore. However, it concerns everyone who has a savings product other than regulated passbooks (LEP, Livret A, LDDS) and life insurance. More specifically, the tax deposit on savings products affects classic bank books, old PELs, PELs and CELs opened since 2018, term accounts, etc. If you do nothing, the interest is subject to flat tax: 17.2% social contributions + 12.8% income tax. However, if your reference tax income does not exceed 25,000 euros (50,000 euros for a couple), you can claim exemption from the annual income tax deduction. This threshold is even doubled for dividends received on a securities account. To claim this exemption, in 2023, you must send your request before the end of November to your bank.
