India: 200 tons of marijuana destroyed by the police (Video)


In the state of Andhra-Pradesh, the Indian police on February 12 burned a huge quantity of smuggled drugs, seized during the year in its operations against traffickers.

In the village of Kodur located in the district of Vishakapatnam, 200 tons of marijuana went up in smoke as part of a law enforcement operation aimed at suppressing drug trafficking in Andhra Pradesh, an Indian state in the south of the country.

“This is the result of a year-long special campaign by the Andhra Pradesh State Police and the SEB (Special Enforcement Bureau). It is a systematic repression against the ganja (marijuana) trade, as well as the supply circuits set up and controlled by this mafia throughout the country”, declared Damodar Gautam Sawang, the director general of the police. of Andhra Pradesh, to the local media present at this event.

Launched in November 2021, this police operation called “Parivarthana” resulted in this colossal seizure of narcotics and the arrest of more than 1,500 people. According to the police, the value of the banned substance destroyed is estimated at 5 billion rupees or just over 58 million euros.

Divided into several hearths, this gigantic fire was lit by the director general of the police himself. The fire consumed and destroyed the entire stock of drugs seized in a year by the police. Residents of the village of Kodur, which was chosen as the cremation site, were asked to stay inside their homes as a precaution because the smoke given off by marijuana could cause headaches or intoxication.

The destruction of such a large quantity of drugs was a first in the country, police said.

According to local media, some areas of Andhra Pradesh but also the neighboring state of Odisha are notorious for the cultivation and smuggling of marijuana.
