A travel agency booked the flight and stated that it was a trip after a wedding, said a spokesman for the low-cost airline SpiceJet of the German press agency on Monday. But then the guests would have simply held a wedding ceremony during the flight. The spokesman said his company was considering taking action against the wedding party.
The spokesman emphasized that the passengers had been informed about corona guidelines on Sunday before the journey from the southern Indian city of Madurai to the Indian Silicon Valley Bengaluru and they had not received permission for activities on board. In a video spread by the Indian media, a couple and a wedding party can be seen celebrating close together and without masks.
Investigations underway
There were more than 100 guests on the plane, while the state of Tamil Nadu, from where the plane took off, is currently in a strict lockdown, local media reported.
The civil aviation authority has launched an investigation, wrote the Indian news agency ANI. There is currently a violent second wave in India. Since the pandemic began, more than 300,000 people have died of or with corona in the country. (SDA)
