Indiana Jones, the highly anticipated Xbox exclusive from MachineGames and Bethesda has finally shown up and it looks simply insane!
If the famous adventurer had the right to a final film last year, Indiana Jones and the Clock of Destiny, it’s been a while since good Indiana Jones came to play the whip in a video game. Casually, the last one dates from 2009 for the main franchise, otherwise we have to turn to the more recent LEGO games to play our favorite hero. But fans can rest assured, Indi hasn’t aged a bit. Bethesda and MachineGames, to whom we owe the recent Wolfenstein The New Order and Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus, know what they are doing when it comes to wowing us with unbridled action, but we certainly didn’t expect it from an action-adventure game like this and yet it makes you want it, even if it will clearly divide.
Indiana Jones is back, it looks crazy, but it’s not going to please everyone
It must be said that Indiana Jones is so popular that it didn’t take much to heat up the sauce. The exclusivity took advantage of the Xbox Direct on January 18 to finally be revealed after several years of development and secrets. Until now we only had a little information, but this time it’s the right one.
For this brand new Indiana Jones game, the Swedish studio opted for Unreal Engine 5 and modeled the iconic Harrison Ford, obvious, you might say. The problem is that we won’t really see his face since the game is mainly in subjective view! Yes, it’s an FPS, which many fans were afraid of. MachineGames will therefore use its experience in this area to offer us a spectacle at all times. The developers claim that this reinforces immersion and allows you to truly embody the adventurer. This is what we will see.
A surprising choice, but a game that wants to be as authentic as possible
As is, Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle mix of platform phases, where the camera switches to the third person (during certain interactions in particular), infiltration and combat. As in the films, Indy knows how to use his fists as well as the revolver but also and above all the whip, his most faithful friend (after his hat). The game also offers us a large number of puzzles to solve and environments to explore in every corner of the world, from the Vatican to a forgotten temple in the jungle to dusty ruins in Egypt. An entire program. The developers want us to offer the most authentic and enjoyable Indiana Jones experience possible.
Note also that the game is canonical to the film series since its plot is located between Raiders of the Lost Ark And The Last Crusade. Fans should definitely be happy with the news and we can definitely expect a few winks. In any case, there will be new characters, notably Gina, a heroine who will act as the second protagonist.
Unfortunately, Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle hasn’t given us a release date yet, not even a window. However, the game has confirmed that it will indeed be released this year on Xbox and PC. It will of course be released on Xbox Game Pass upon launch.
